Background Information!

The community we hope to support is the Kiwirrkurra community. The Kiwirrkurra community is considered the most remote community in Australia. In 2011 it had a population of 216 aboriginals. The Kiwirrkurra community was established in the early 1980's and become a permanent community in 1983. It was one of the last areas with nomadic Aborigines.
Location!
The Kiwirrkurra community is located in the Gibson Desert, 850 kms west of Alice Springs and 1,200 kms east of Port Hedland . Though located beyond the Ngaanyatjarra lands it is affiliated with the Ngaanyatjarra community.
Schooling and services!
The schools in Kiwirrkurra has 24 primary students and 16 high school students. The schools have 3 teachers, a school principal and 3 AIEO's (Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer). The school contains a school office a K-3 classroom, middle school classrooms, high school classroom and a library. The community consists of a school, an information center, general store, plane runway, women's center, football oval and media center.
